Cool Memo is a privacy-first voice memo app for iPhone and Android. The app does not require users to create an account.
Information Stored on the Device
Cool Memo stores memo information locally on the user's device by default. This may include:
- Audio recordings.
- Memo titles and dates.
- Transcript, summary, and action-item text when available.
- App preferences such as language, transcription language, translation settings, and privacy choices.
- Optional memo location information only when the user enables location storage.
Recording works offline. Audio is saved locally before any transcript or AI processing starts.
Permissions
Cool Memo asks for microphone access when the user starts recording. Microphone access is used to create voice memos.
If the user enables location storage, the app may ask for location permission to attach a location to a memo after the audio has been saved. Location storage is optional and does not block recording.
The app may use notification permission for live or deferred status such as recording in progress or processing completion, depending on platform support and user settings.
Transcription, Translation, and AI Processing
Cool Memo may use platform speech recognition or on-device processing features where available. Platform providers may process audio or transcript data according to their operating system and service terms.
On-device translation may require downloading language models from the platform provider. Translation runs locally after the required model is available.
Cloud AI features may be added later only as optional, temporary processing. When cloud processing is enabled, Cool Memo should upload only the data needed for processing, avoid using memo content for training, avoid logging memo content, and delete temporary remote audio, transcript, and cache after successful processing.
Sharing and Export
Sharing is user-initiated through the native iOS or Android share sheet. When the user shares a memo, the selected destination's privacy policy applies.
What Cool Memo Does Not Do
- No required account.
- No ads.
- No tracking.
- No analytics on memo content.
- No required cloud storage.
- No sale of personal information.
Website
The public website at https://coolmemo.net is a static Netlify-hosted site. Netlify and related hosting infrastructure may process limited technical information such as IP address, user agent, request metadata, timestamps, logs, and security data needed to operate and protect the website.
Data Security
Reasonable technical and organizational measures are used to protect information processed by the application. Memo content should not be printed to application logs.
Children's Privacy
Cool Memo is not specifically directed toward children under the age of 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
